The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) announced that a total of 47.8million NINs have been collected by Mobile operators across the country.
Minister of Communications and Digital Economy , Isa Pantami, in a statement issued in Abuja by the Director Public, Affairs , Nigerian Communications Commission , Ikechukwu Adinde warned telephone subscribers to protect their NINs for security purposes and warned against selling SIMs already linked to NIN. He also expressed optimism that more NINs would be collected by the mobile operators before the deadline of February 9th 2021.
He said “For any action committed with the SIM good or bad it will be officially traced and attached to the NIN owner.”
“So far a total of 47 .8 million NINs have been collected by the mobile operators . At an average of three to four SIMs per subscriber , this means many millions will be linked up before the deadline in February 2021,”
Recall that the Federal government after series of pleas and opposition extended the deadline for registration and submission of NINs to mobile operators. The Federal government gave January 19th 2021(today) as the new deadline for those with NINs to link it to their SIMs whereas the deadline for subscribers without NIN was set at February 9th 2021.
