The Citizens defeated Aston Villa to go top of the Premier League for now pending the outcome between Manchester United and Fulham.
Iikay Gundogan continued his impressive goal-scoring form this season by netting for City as they defeated Aston Villa. City started the game on a brighter note but Pep Guardiola lads were guilty of horrendous misses. Bernando Silva opened the scoring for the Citizens in the 79th minute but in controversial fashion as Spanish midfielder, Rodri came back from an offside position to lay off Silva, who fired in from just outside the box. Aston Villa manager, Dean Smith was unhappy with the Referee’s decision and was red-carded for his protests.
German midfielder, Iikay Gundogan scored the second goal of the game from the Penalty spot in the 90th minute after Matty Cash was penalized for handball from Gabriel Jesus’ header, The goal sealed the win for the citizens who were made to labor despite dominating for long periods.
Dean Smith lads looked menacing on counter-attacks with Ross Barkley, Bertrand Traore, and Douglas Luiz all forcing Brazilian goalkeeper, Ederson into smart saves from distance.
The Victory sends the Citizens to the summit of the league temporarily but they could be overtaken by rivals Manchester United if they beat Fulham later on Wednesday. Pep Guardiola lads travel to The Jonny-Rocks Stadium to face League 2 side, Cheltenham Town away in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday 23 January, with kick-off at 17:30 (UK).
