Electricity restored in Kwara Community after seven years of blackout

Tori4africa reports that the District Head of Aawe in Asa Local Government of Kwara State, Alhaji Oba Daudu-Sulaiman, has said electricity supply has been restored to the community after over seven years of blackout.

The traditional ruler confirmed this at Aawe during an interview with NAN, following a report that the community, which has been in existence since over 300 years ago, was tossed into blackout over seven years ago as a result of defect to electricity cables and destruction of some electricity poles by the downpour.

An excited Daudu-Sulaiman said normal social and economic activities had been restored to the community, because artisan, including young women engaging in petty businesses, who left the community during the period of electricity blackout, are gradually returning.

Electricity makes life easier, therefore the district head hoped that some residents of the community, who relocated to urban centres during the years of power outrage, would soon return.

He thanked Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq and the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (ABC) for the restoration of the power supply to the area.

Daudu-Sulaiman, however, appealed to the state government to support the community with classrooms in its secondary school constructed through a self-help project.

He urged the government to construct the only road linking Aawe with the llorin-lgneti federal highway in the state.

The Kwara regional Head of lBEDC, Alhaji Ajisafe Bello, advised the community to guard the installation against vandalism and ensure prompt payment of bills to sustain a constant power supply.

Meanwhile, It was detected by NAN  that some welders and other residents of the community, whose jobs require electricity, are now back to business, following the restoration of the electricity supply.
