The needs to maximise the potential in the Information Communication Technology (ICT), in the face of the prevailing harsh global economic conditions, were the main focus at an economic empowerment programme for youths, artisans and traders in Surulere Local Government of Oyo State.
It was organised by the Federal Cooperative College, Ibadan.
The training, facilitated by Senator Teslim Folarin (Oyo Central), was handled by Hayes Multisystem Investment Ltd, at Resource Centre, Igbole.
Folarin, addressing the participants, said it was evident that there was no adequate job for teeming youths, which informed the need to empower them with ICT skills.
He said recent economic dynamics had shown that goods and services could be digitally marketed, adding that this informed why the beneficiaries were exposed to modern methods of digital marketing.
The senator, urging the beneficiaries to make good use of the privilege they had, said he was ready to further support those who genuinely translated all they acquired from the programme to viable economic means of making ends meet.
The Provost of the Federal Cooperative College, Mr. Oyeleye Sunday, urged the participants to deploy the knowledge acquired during the training in their businesses and make use of it to positively affect the society.
He added that the beneficiaries should make use of ICT to market their products and network for more contacts that would help in the advancement of the businesses.
Some of the beneficiaries, including Oyekale Oluwatunmishe Dorcas and Alimi, thanked the lawmaker for giving back to the society through the extensive training and pledged to explore means of ICT for economic gains.
