Chelsea register an impressive away win against La Liga giants in Bucharest, with Olivier Giroud scoring his sixth Champions League goal of the season.
In an uneasy encounter, Giroud acrobatically gave a goal at the 68minutes but celebrations were muted as the linesman’s flag was instantly raised.
However, after analysis, it was noticed that the ball had deflected off Mario Hermoso rather than Mason Mount, which was spotted by VAR, and after three minutes of deliberation the goal was awarded.
Chelsea’s Boss, Thomas Tuchel was facing his toughest test since joining Chelsea but he was up to the task, setting up his team solidified in Bucharest and controlling possession throughout. Atletico lost without a shot on target as Chelsea’s back were impressive.
Meanwhile in the second leg, chelsea would play without Mount and jorginho as they were booked in the first leg.
