Two Brother Arrested For Kidnapping And Murder In Kaduna

The Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) has arrested two brothers over the alleged kidnapping and murder of a suspected informant.

The suspects, Abubakar Suleiman 36, and Awalu Suleiman, 25, natives of Manufashi Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State were arrested by operatives led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Tunji Disu.

Report gathered that the operatives, acting on a tip-off, apprehended Abubakar, alleged to have extorted and kidnapped several people in Kaduna.

His modus operandi, it was learnt, included threatening people to pay his gang a certain amount of money or risk being kidnapped only to still abduct the victims when they bring the amount requested.

One of their victims, was a certain Alhaji Abass, who owned a filling station.

Abubakar, his younger brother, Awalu, and other gang members were said to have threatened Abass to pay them N300,000 which must be brought to a specific location to stop them from kidnapping him.

Out of fear, the man complied and took the money to them at the location they requested. Instead of letting him go, they held him hostage until N500,000 more was paid.

They have done it to many other victims. They also go to people’s homes to kidnap them. They kidnapped two Igbo men who sell medicine in the community.

Based on intelligence report, the elder brother was arrested. When the younger brother, Awalu, heard his brother had been arrested, he went to the suspected informant’s house, one Isah Abdul, and but heahim toanufashi, said a source.

Giving details about their operations, Abubakar said they worked with one Dogo (still at large), adding that it was the said Dogo that contacted Abass.

He said he usually used his motorcycle to carry unsuspecting persons only to hand them over to members of his gang at a designated junction.

He said:

Yes, I am into kidnapping. The first person I kidnapped was Alhaji Abass. We live in the same area. He owns a filling station. Dogo called him on phone to bring N300,000.

He threatened that if he does not bring it, he would be kidnapped. When he brought the money, we collected it and still kidnapped him. We collected an additional N500,000 for his release.

That is how we threatened people. My gang has kidnapped many people but I only followed them twice. Sometimes, we go into people’s houses to pick them.

Other times, I use my motorbike to pick passengers and when I get to the junction where my gang members are, I will stop so they will come out of the bush to carry the person. I have an AK47 rifle. I bought it for N470,000. I also have cows for rearing.

Similarly, Awalu confessed to the murder, explaining that he executed it with Dogo and Mutari.

He said they killed him because they were angry that the informant, who was also a kidnapper, gave Abubakar up to the security agents.

The person once stole our cows and I suspected he was the one that gave information that led to my brother’s arrest.

We stormed his house by 12 midnight and met him sleeping. We forced the door open and saw him holding a cutlass to attack us. We blew him up with our guns.

I did that because he also had his kidnap gang. So why expose my brother? said Awalu.

According to the police spokesman, CP Frank Mba, the suspects would be charged to court soon.
